Except it kept me up all last night. And I can't go on taking ibuprofen a lot. That's not good. One's stomach lining should not be treated in such a cavalier fashion. And when I woke up today with what felt like yet another steel spike vertically driven through my jaw, I decided that Enough Is Too Much and I called the dentist office.
I really like my dentist (Dental Arts, Highland Ave, Somerville; Carolyn recommended me to them) and they've been very good to me over the course of this year. They were able to fit me into a 2:30 appointment this afternoon. I couldn't even make the "HAY THAT'S THE TIME YOU ALWAYS SEE A DENTIST HAW HAW HAW" joke because I was in too much pain and besides the joke is only marginally funny if you don't get a chance to type it out ironically in all caps.
Turns out the pain isn't from cold sensitivity and that my ear and jaw hurting aren't sympathy pains. You've guessed this already, I take it. Dr. D took one look at the affected area -- didn't even take five seconds -- and said "Okay, I'll be back in just one moment."
He came back with a big bottle full of Amoxicillin and told me to take two, they're small. Actually he said "Take two, we gotta get this stuff working in you NOW." The infection has spread to my jaw and maybe even my ear. Everything on the left side of my face hurts, pretty much.
Now I have 1500mg of Amoxicillin in me, I'll be taking 500mg more before bed and then 500mg every six hours, plus I have some Dr. House-approved painkillers to remove that steel spike. And we've got a treatment plan which involves yanking out the problem children and replacing them, but that's Later. Right Now, all that matters is getting rid of the infection and the pain.
So, how's every little thing?
