|06:07 pm - It was an inevitability|
The Xbox just gave the Red Ring of Death.
Three years and a few weeks of faithful service and fun video games and it just decides to up and die ignobly for No Apparent Reason. I last used the thing a week or so ago. Today I started it up to play some Rock Band and it couldn't even sense controllers connected to it. One restart later and the three flashing red lights popped up to say hello. Disconnected everything, plugged it all back in, and nothin but flashy flashy flashy.
Not only does this mean no more Rock Band, one of the few things keeping me sane, but no DVDs either. There won't be a replacement for a long time. I'll first need to get back on my feet and start making enough money to justify a new video game purchase, and that ain't gonna happen overnight. Or any night soon.
In the grand scheme of things the loss of a video game console really can't be considered a true tragedy. But it's just one more thing in my world that's crumbled recently, and a fellow can only take so much crumbling in such a short amount of time. It's beginning to feel like there's not much left that can fall apart.
Hopes: Not so high at the moment.
Think about checking Craigslist for cheap used systems?
Rock band is awesome.
This town is flooded with cheap gaming goods. You will find a replacement.
It will come in time, I am sure. But money's gotta go to the important things first. The needs of the tooth outweigh the needs of the video games.
That sucks. :( You might be able to get it repaired--unfortunately, if it's over three years old, it's out of warranty.
Still might be worth a call to Xbox support, though.
Suck. Was it an original xbox or a 360?
It was a 360, and an old enough model that honestly it should have RRODed a long time ago.
Sure looked great on the big-ass TV though I tell you what.

It's always been a little finicky. It might be able to mystically repair itself. It has before.
Well, I'll give it a Time Out, if that's what it wants. And if it decides it needs a longer time out, I will wish it success in its future role as a doorstop.
There's also the possibility of this guy
I just got RRROD last week, on a system I've had for two and a half years. It would start up again after reconnecting things...but it kept freezing. It's currently at the repair center in Mesquite, Texas.
I believe it's still covered by the extended warranty (which only applies to the RRoD issue, as I understand)...so yeah, you may want to make a call. Although I think if you're over three years, you may be out of luck.

You're of course always invited over to play mine. Sorry about yours though. :-(

Damn. That sucks. We've never gotten a 360, been too poor at the times when we've actually wanted one. The Wii is getting more useful as time goes by, though.
After all you've been going through, I think a Xbox scholarship fund might be in order. I (and by "I" I mean "Stenny") could probably kick in a few bucks, although not buy a whole new one.
It's a really swell and generous notion, and thank you for the offer, but I think I will be fine without one for the time being.
There's more than a few of us who would give to such a cause, but if that's how you feel.
How about a whiparound for your tooth problem?
Seriously though, I think I should give you something for posting about "Paulie Revere, Private Eye: One if by Land, Two if by Murder", just because I've been laughing about it for something like a week and a half now.
I was just going to post that myself! I’d be happy to contribute.

Do you use the online stuff at all? If not, there are all these banned systems floating around...
You are, of course, always welcome to come rock at bcos.
Somewhere around here I have a cheap (free to me but usually about $20) DVD player. Apparently it's crap but honestly it was FREE and I never use it because I don't have a TV.
Do you want it? I know it won't play games, but at least... movies? I've had it for a YEAR and I have NEVER used it.
