There is a new toy coming my way.
I have much hope.
I had my heart set on the EOS 350D, because more than anything I'd love an SLR again. My first love, my dear, sweet Pentax K1000, waits in silent slumber downstairs with bustificated 28-80mm lens. I haven't used it in over 7 years now. I want to fix it right and play with it again, only film and processing has gotten so sadly expensive and I have nowhere to build a darkroom (Abbie is currently eating and pooping in What Could Be A Darkroom For Midgets Or Spatches Who Like To Hunch Over A Lot -- actually, that place leaks light like a goddamn sieve and I don't have the patience to seal it off from the inside.)
But I can't afford a Rebel and buy a new lens at the same time. Besides, I don't know what I'm gonna do with 6 megapixels, much less 8, so the new PowerShot it is.
I cannot wait to take it to a place where they have roller coasters.
This explains why I got my old Canon SLR so cheap.
Don't care. Only 3.2 megapixels, but it's taken some amazing shots for me.
I always get such a thrill out of getting great pictures from "lesser" cameras. My disposable Coney Island experiments
were so much fun because I couldn't believe the color I got out of 'em.
I still use my now-crap-ass Nikon Coolpix 2500, all two megapixels of it. I figure 2MP is actually overkill for most of what I do with photos, and I still love its swiveling lens and remarkable macro capability. Though it's terrible in low light (Sam's new Sony is a million times better), and I do get frustrated when the thing blows out the blue sky to white, which these older Nikons do a lot.
I own the S1 IS and love, love, love it. I'm still jealous, though. :)
I played with one of those at a Best Buy once. The stabilizer is amazing--you could tell just by zooming in on stuff across the store and looking at the display.
You have 8 megapixels so you can crop out half the image and still have 4 to play with.

w00t! That looks like a really fun toy.
Does this mean we'll see an increased Spatchian Presense on Flickr?
