The wind doth taste of bittersweetFormer Secretary of Defense, dead at 88. Immortalized in comic strip verse by Opus the Penguin (Weinberger was so taken by the strip that he wrote a letter to Berke Breathed and requested the original.) The staunch Reaganite, notorious for the $1 trillion peacetime military buildup during his tenure as Secretary of Defense, ironically began his career as a government cost-cutter.
Like jasper wine and sugar
I bet it's blown through others' feet
Like those of Caspar Weinberger.
Anyway, I have nothing further to say, I just wanted to post some penguin poetry today.

Oh, good -- I thought of that strip as soon as I heard the news, but couldn't remember the whole poem.

Ah, nothing finer than a little penguin poetry.
Thanks for posting that. Saves me from looking it up. :)

In Taipei airport, there is a bronze bust of "Caspar Weinberger, Warrior for Freedom".
That's one of those facts about the world that just *is*.
