LET'S LOOK AT THE TALLY BOARD, JERRY
Cost of tonight's meal (99 cent
Barilla pasta, $1.50 jar of sauce,
$1.99 pound of ground beef, $2.99
case of Diet Coke) $7.47
Total money from cans redeemed $7.30
Cost out of pocket $0.17I think it's a safe bet to say that tonight's delicious meal is brought to me by the good people at the Coca-Cola Company. Cheers!
Sure, I could be picky and say that the cost of the drinks for the meal alone would be 50 cents, since I'll probably drink two cans at dinner; that brings me to a net gain of $2.32 when all is said and done. Not a bad haul either! Just a shame this kind of meal only comes around once every four months or so.
Don't pay the ferryman
don't even fix a price
don't pay the ferryman
until he gets you to the other side

Re: Martha, lumbat
Actually, I cook and eat the entire pound of meat, use the entire jar of sauce (25 oz) and what pasta I don't boil, I snack on later in the evening. Hello, TMJ.
This pretty much feeds me for a full day -- and what I don't eat from the pot I nuke for breakfast.
...so, in fact, he spent less than $0.17 on his meal, as the cost may be averaged over the total number of meals he can actually consumes.
More to the point, though, he already covered that:

Look, it's right there -- read, comprehend, post.
