|01:34 am - And we did it just like that|
Very few videogames can bring up multiple instances of "Holy shit, that was the coolest thing ever" like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. I'm thinking primarily about a chase scene where my character rides shotgun-- er, rides submachine gun on the back of a motorcycle flying through the concrete riverbeds of downtown Los Santos (Los Angeles in our universe) while an 18-wheeler cab leaps over the side of an overpass, Terminator 2 style, to barrel down on me as I try to make my escape. All the while the in-game radio station is playing "Been Caught Stealing" to make for the most perfect soundtrack ever.
Even though I'm halfway thru the game at this point, I actually started a new game just so I could have a savegame right at that spot.
Actually, the game nearly tops itself when I realize that, while wandering the streets of San Fierro (San Francisco) I can hop into a 1970s Mustang look-alike, get it painted a nice shade of green at the chop shop, and have an awesome Bullitt chase scene for no reason around the hilly streets. But I wonder, I just hope beyond hope, that I've beaten the game to the punch in this instance. I hope that soon enough, there'll be an actual chase mission to run, and that the game will helpfully provide me with another green Mustang look-alike.
It's just that awesome.

The most awesome thing ever is driving the hovercraft off the top of Mt Chilead.
Trust me on this.
I like listening to the reggae station while piloting the attack chopper and doing Vigilante ("Brown Thunder") missions.
After I figured out how to hop the wall at the Los Santos airport early in the game (hey, I wanted my pilots license THEN AND THERE), I used to fly the Cessna around and try to land it in tough locations...basically anywhere on the map where it was straight and moderately flat. My personal favorite was landing it on Chilead and coming in just inches from the flagpole. Taking off was a gas too.
Right now I can't get past Zero's "use the RC plane and mow people down" mission, cause I keep confusing the keys to turn the rudder (Q & E) with the keys used to bank the plane and crash (A & D). Mostly because with every other vehicle, A&D are used to turn safely, not bank and crash. A little practice and a lotta cursing oughta do it, though.
Or I bet I could, like, remap the keys, though I wish I didn't have to do that.
What they NEED is a GTA MMORPG...if only to get rid of the Night Elves on the Tram as they abandon WOW for Hot Coffee...
Yeah, I want to have some jackass with a sniper rifle, a lot of ammo, and a pathing glitch (GTA? Looking right at you here) sitting out of police reach pegging everyone to step out of the newbie area.
Outside of that, though, it'd kick a fair bit of ass.
Man, driving around doing drive-by's listening to Ice Cube just makes my heart tie it's doo-rag on backwards and make me feel warm and fuzzy. Playa.
